Obtain user details and Ensure a ticket has been created requesting passwords for device setup
- Use format for subject: School code – New Device – Staff Name
- Ticket type: Hardware Install
- Do not pend – we don’t want the ticket to close due to no response
Next step: If you have multiple devices to set up, it would be better to do this stage for all laptops before anything else as it can be the most time consuming and cause the most delays if not entered correctly/waiting on Microsoft to apply changes.
Check serial number for device
- Goto Intune > Devices > Windows > Enrolment
- Windows Autopilot > Devices (all newly purchased devices should appear here)
Open a duplicate tab
- Goto Intune > Groups > All Groups
- Search for relevant laptop group (e.g AFA-Staff-Laptops)
- Click to open group
- Click on ‘Dynamic Membership rules’ under ‘Manage’
- Under rule syntax a line of code should appear, the highlighted section is required, copy this (see example below)
- (device.devicePhysicalIds -any _ -eq "[OrderID]:AFA-Staff-Laptop")
Go back to previous tab with the Autopilot Device Enrolment showing
- Enter the serial number of your device and select it so the ‘Properties’ tab appears
- Section ‘Group Tag’, enter the highlighted information from the last step. NOTE: it has to be exactly as it shows in the syntax otherwise this step will not work.
Leave device for 20/30 mins for the assignment to take effect
You should now be able to connect the device to an unfiltered network (VLAN 4) and start the setup process – you will see a WeST logo appear and a checklist the system is working through.
Whilst the laptop is installing, begin checks on the WeST tenant account (@*schoolcode*.westst.org.uk)
- Licence applied?
- Is it a member of the relevant Teams areas & School Guardian Group?
- Is there a Teams Guest account under their pre-existing tenant in the WeST Microsoft environment? If so, add to same groups.
- Password? Default for new accounts created by Salamander is:
- The default password for user accounts will be set to the following examples:
- Staff: School Code + DOB (6 Digits) + ! (e.g.: AFA******!)
- Student: School Code + . + DOB (6 Digits) (e.g.: AFA.******)
